Class of 2021

Annika Bolhuis

Annika Bolhuis, daughter of Kevin and Cindy Bolhuis, has been homeschooled with her twin brother Kamden for all her life. She enjoys baking, painting, music, and FIRST robotics on her team, Code Red Robotics. God has blessed Annika with an entrepreneurial spirit, and in the future she wants to own a business that utilizes her artistic abilities. She is looking forward to continuing her education at Hope College, studying Business and Economics.

Her favorite scripture is Acts 28:27, “For the people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears and have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and in turn, I would heal them.”

Kamden Bolhuis

Kamden Bolhuis, son of Kevin and Cindy Bolhuis, has been homeschooled his entire life with his twin sister, Annika. He enjoys FIRST robotics on his team, Code Red Robotics, software programming, and travelling. He is looking forward to continuing his education at Hope College studying computer science.

His favorite scripture is Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

 

Jasmine Boorsma

Jasmine Boorsma was born in the country of Liberia on April 1, 2003, just as the country’s civil war was ending. In the spring of 2005, she was adopted, and in the fall, she arrived in the United States. Jasmine was raised in a family of eight children, and remains especially close to her sister Jessica, her twin, and her oldest brother James. She is also close to her mother, Nancy Boorsma, who inspired and encouraged her passion for cooking. Jasmine has fond early memories of playing with spices, measuring them, and mixing them in bowls of water. Jasmine was homeschooled her entire life, and participated in several homeschool organizations. For gym, academic, and oil painting classes, she attended GRACE. She participated in handbells, orchestra, choir, band, and colorguard during the school year, and marching band during the summer with West Michigan Homeschool Fine Arts. She also played on homeschool volleyball and basketball teams, and was captain of her basketball team in 11th grade. In her junior and senior years, she took classes at the Kent Career Technical Center that included cooking, advanced pastry, MMA certification, and meat cutting. Her teachers at KCTC have been encouraging mentors, instrumental in securing her job at Covenant Living of the Great Lakes. Jasmine plans to continue her education at GRCC, earning an associates degree in culinary arts. After that she plans to transfer to Nicholls State University in Louisiana to get a bachelors degree in culinary arts and hospitality management, with a minor in business and finance. One day she hopes to realize her childhood dream of opening a restaurant with her sister Jessica.

John 10:27-30 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father who has given them to me, is greater than all and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one”. (ESV)

Jessica Boorsma

Jessica Boorsma was born in the country of Liberia on April 1, 2003. In the spring of 2005, she was officially adopted, and in the fall of 2005, she arrived in the United States. Jessica was raised in a big family, but is closest to her twin sister Jasmine, and her oldest brother James. She is also very close to her mother, Nancy Boorsma, who inspired her love for cooking and baking. Jessica vividly remembers and cherishes the memories of dinners with her family. Jessica was part of several homeschool organizations. At GRACE, she enjoyed art, gym, and academic classes, excelling at public speaking. West Michigan Homeschool Fine Arts is where she participated in handbells, orchestra, choir, band, color guard, and marching band. She also played basketball, from 8th grade to 11th grade, and volleyball. In her junior and senior year of high school, Jessica was a student at Kent Career Technical Center, where she worked on her culinary degree. Jessica plans on continuing her education through GRCC, earning her associates degree in culinary arts. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and I will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”

Jared Samuel Boot

Jared, son of Brian and Priscilla Boot, is 18 years old and has been homeschooled his entire life. He has eight siblings, seven sisters and one brother, and is smack in the middle of them all. Some hobbies he has enjoyed through the years include, but are not limited to: swimming, hiking, rock climbing, camping, listening to music, cars, and playing his cello. In the future, he plans to go to an aviation academy and get his private pilot’s license, and from there get his airplane mechanic’s license; however, he might work with his dad for a year or two until ridiculous pandemic regulations are gone.

One of his favorite Bible passages is Romans 8:37-39 “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (KJV)

Annabelle Cappon

Annabelle Joy Cappon, youngest child of Jason and Heather Cappon, and arguably the favorite child, has been homeschooled for one year. She has spent only this year homeschooling to finish out her high school career, and questions her parents for not letting her do this sooner. Apart from filling up her brain with school work, you’ll usually find Belle at church where she serves in the worship ministry and as a youth leader at Restore. You can also find her with her best friends Sara, Sierra, and Bekah, or hanging out with her family. Before Belle officially ends this chapter in her life, she would like to thank God, her parents, and her siblings for their constant love and encouragement, for those much needed counseling sessions, for their teases and laughter, and just being them. So, “Thank you, you guys are the absolute greatest!”

Tyler De Vries

Tyler DeVries, son of Tony and Sherri DeVries, has been homeschooled his entire life along with his two siblings, Makenzie and Alexis. He enjoys rock climbing, disc golfing, card games, and backpacking. Having no plans for college, Tyler will be continuing his education throughout the rest of his life learning what God has in store for him.

His favorite scripture is 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Kaylee Dykema

Kaylee Dykema, the daughter of Chris and Melissa, is 17 years old and has been homeschooled since 2013 with her two younger sisters. She loves music, driving, and quality time with her two friends. She plans to attend Grand Rapids Community College for her Gen. Eds.

A Bible verse Kaylee enjoys is Psalm 56:4, “In God, whose word I praise – in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mortals do to me?”

 

Stephen George

Stephen George, son of Saju and Juli George, was home schooled alongside his two siblings for the past eleven years. Stephen enjoys playing basketball, playing piano, reading, and working on computers. He plans to attend college this coming fall and is seeking to pursue Computer Science or Physical Therapy.

His favorite Scripture is Titus 3:4-7 which says: “But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we did in righteousness, but in accordance with His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He richly poured out upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

 

Lavender Gunderman

Lavender Gunderman is the daughter of Brian and Laura Gunderman and has been home schooled with her siblings for nine years. She loves writing, drawing, anime, and video games. She anticipates joining the Air Force and becoming a Japanese interpreter and plans to attend MSU.

Lavender's favorite scripture is Psalms 1:13. “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, But whose delight is in the law of the Lord and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in season and whose leafs does not wither. Whatever they do prospers.”

 

Jonathan Haaland

Jonathan Haaland, son of David and Tammi Haaland, is the third oldest of five children and has been home schooled for thirteen years. He enjoys golf, wood burning, reading, and machining at KCTC. Jonathan plans on continuing his education at GRCC where he will study business.

Jonathan's favorite Scripture verse is Job 28:28. “And he said to man, 'The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.'”

Yonni Kristine Jones

Yonni Kristine Jones, daughter of Alan and Kris Jones, is excited to graduate today from GRACE as she completes her eighth year of home-schooling. Yonni has one older sister who lives in Holland, MI and a younger sister and younger brother who are home-schooled as well. Yonni is looking forward to applying her awesome education to acting or teaching, and missions.

Yonni chose her favorite scripture of Galations 3:28 because we are all created equally regardless of our circumstances and differences. “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

 

Gideon Markwat

Gideon Markwat, son of Joel and Martha Markwat, has been homeschooled with his three siblings for the past eight years. He enjoys working out, basketball, video games, and riding his motorcycle. He plans to learn more about home remodeling so that he can work in the house flipping and real estate business and one day own his own business.

Gideon's favorite scripture is Proverbs 13:20. “Walk with the wise and become wise, for the companion of fools suffers harm.” 

 

Cody Molewyk

Cody Molewyk, son of Dave and Julia Molewyk, has been home schooled for all of his education.  During his high school, Cody participated in various home school co-ops,  construction classes at Careerline Tech Center, homeschool basketball, his youth group, and volunteered at children’s church.  Cody enjoys working, rock climbing, and hanging out with friends. Cody’s future plans include working in the construction field. 

His favorite scripture is Proverbs 30:30, “The lion, which is mightiest among beasts and does not turn back from any”

Sharai Norcross

Sharai Norcross, the firstborn daughter of Jamie and April Norcross, has been home-schooled with her sister, Sarah, for almost her entire academic career. Her favorite pastimes are photography, reading, creative writing, and music. Sharai intends to continue her education and to grow her abilities in these activities for her personal edification and potential career.

Her favorite verse is 1 Corinthians 13:4-8: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”   

Joel Paschen

Joel Charles Paschen, third child of Jim and Julie Paschen, has been home schooled for thirteen years. He came to know Christ as his Savior while attending Summer Camp in 2018. He enjoys reading, hanging out with friends, playing piano, and watching Chicago Cubs baseball. He looks forward to continuing his education in the fall at Bob Jones University.

Joel's favorite scripture is John 16:33. “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

 

Eli Stanton

Eli Stanton, son of Todd and Kimberly, has been home schooled with his siblings for seven years. He enjoys basketball, video games, board games, and hanging out with family. He looks forward to being independent and plans to continue his education in a trade school.

Eli's favorite scripture is Matthew 17:20: “He replied, 'Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to there and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.'”

Abigail Rose Timmer

Abigail Rose Timmer, daughter of Troy and Pamela Timmer, has been home-schooled Kindergarten through twelfth grade. She is the middle child with an older brother and a younger sister. She enjoys raising and showing livestock, being outdoors, spending time at Lake Michigan, and playing basketball. Abbie enjoys studying Science and is looking forward to studying Animal Science on Pre-Veterinary Medicine at Huntington University in Huntington, Indiana. 

One of Abbie's favorite Scripture verses is Micah 7:8. “Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.”

 

Renae Leigh Timmer

Renae Leigh Timmer, daughter of Mike and Jan Timmer, has been home schooled with her five siblings for thirteen years. Renae enjoys photography, reading, swing dancing, and rock climbing. She looks forward to taking a gap year and then pursuing a degree in Business Administration from Davenport University.

Logan Van Vels

Logan Daniel Van Vels has been home schooled for thirteen years with his brother and sister. His parents are Brian and Amy Van Vels. He enjoys fishing, camping, sleeping, and basketball. This fall he plans to attend Grace University for Youth Ministry.

Logan's favorite scripture passage is James 1:12. “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”

 

Caleb Wright

Caleb Wright is the firstborn child of Jim and Jenna Wright, who reside in Sheridan, Michigan. Caleb has two brothers and one sister. He enjoys computers, art, photography, and coffee. Caleb plans to attend Bob Jones University in the fall and major in graphic design.

Caleb's favorite scripture verse is Matthew 6:21. “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

Sara Yoder

Sara Ashley Yoder, daughter of Robert and Freda Yoder, has been home schooled with her three siblings for ten years. She enjoys Photography, volleyball, and interning at her church. She looks forward to YWAM (Youth With A Mission) in New Zeeland.

Sara's favorite scripture is Psalms 84:1-2.

“How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the Lord; My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God!”

Liliana Pearly Zylstra

Liliana Zylstra, daughter of Rosie and Brandon, began her home school education in kindergarten. Early on, she loved listening to Winnie-the-Pooh and the Chronicles of Narnia. As a freshman, Liliana found that she loved the art of persuasion and began honing her skills through competitive speech and debate. Lily plans to study communication arts at Grove City College, and hopes to be a strong ambassador for the gospel and the pro-life movement.

Liliana's favorite scripture verse is Psalm 139:9-10 (ESV).

“If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me.”

Sean Wierda

Sean Wierda, son of Cal and Michelle Wierda, has been homeschooled with his older brother for eight years. He enjoys watching videos, playing with pets, watching sports, and camping vacations with family. He looks forward to graduating and plans to possibly continue his education.

His favorite scripture is Philippians 2:14–16, “Do everything without complaining or arguing so that you may be blameless and innocent, God's children without any fault among a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine like stars in the universe as you hold firmly to the Word of life.”
