Community News
1.       H2O Ladies Fellowship has its next meeting on Friday,  January 27th and meets in the Family Room from 10:00-11:00.  We call this H2O / Home School Helps & Opportunities.  It is a time to exchange ideas, learn from other home schooling moms, ask questions and just enjoy the community of moms at GRACE.  Anyone is welcome.  The H2O meeting topic for the next meeting on the 27th is yet to be decided.  If you have young children, they may play in the area nearby, so that you don’t have to resort to child care.  Coffee and muffins are served!

2.       Girls of GRACE Book Club usually meets the 2nd Friday of each month in Room 2 over the lunch break, from 12:00-12:40. We postponed the January meeting to the 3rd Friday due to illness.   Join us as we share the books we love with each other!  Get new ideas from your friends for books you will want to read next!  Bring your lunch with you and we’ll eat as we chat about books.

3.       The Resource Center (Library) is now available for students in grades 9-12 ONLY for independent and quiet study time.  Students must sign in on the sheet located on the hall table on Fridays in order to be in the library, and must sign in for EACH hour used.  Otherwise students may still use Room B which is located next to the kitchen off the Family Room for a less noisy and less active place of study.

4.       Next Pizza Lunch Day is Friday, February 3rd. Family members are welcome to join in!

5.       Yearbooks may be ordered at this time.  Order forms are available on the hall table every Friday.  There are examples of yearbooks which will be similar in appearance to our upcoming publication.  These examples are for display only and are meant to show off, (YES, SHOW OFF) the great work our Journalism/Yearbook class is doing to make a quality yearbook full of memories that your children will enjoy for years to come.  Kim Bohlman has produced these yearbooks for other organizations and we are VERY excited to see the next official GRACE Home School Association yearbook for 2016-2017 academic year.

6.       There is a plan to have a Creation Museum Trip this coming May 2017.  The tentative dates are May 8,9 & 10 which fall on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of that week.  This would be during the last week of classes for the year (providing we don’t have a make-up day for snow in the 2nd semester).  Chelsea Eerkes and Randy Hazenberg will be the coordinators for this amazing opportunity.  Mark your calendars!!! More information to follow.

7.       It is time to sign up for the Complete IOWA Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) for students in grades 3-12.  These tests are being offered on Monday, May 22 & Tuesday, May 23 from 9 am – 2 pm.  The cost is $55 per student.  This includes test administration and a complete analysis of your student’s scores.  Mr. Randy Hazenberg, M. Ed., is also available (by appointment) to work with you to examine and interpret the data. This will provide a clear understanding of your child’s academic strengths and areas of possible concern. The deadline for registration and payment is May 1, 2017.  There is a limit to the number of students tested, so please sign up soon.

8.      The first semester ends on January 20th, and the second semester will start on Tuesday, January 24th.  Report cards will be available in early to mid-February.  You will be notified as soon as they are ready to be picked up.   There are still a few classes that could be picked up for 2nd semester.  See our website for details.

Regular Items:
1.       Pizza Lunch happens the first Friday of every month.  You get a slice of pizza and a choice of 3 sides for only $3.00.  Drink, bowl of tossed salad, fresh fruit, dessert, and chips are the items to choose from.  Come and enjoy.  Lunch is served in the gym.  You may eat with your children, or with other parents who may stay for lunch.

2.       BAD WEATHER ALERTS:  In case of bad weather that would necessitate school closing, check your local radio and TV stations for the HSB (Home School Building) to be closed.  This information would be posted early on the morning, usually by 6:30-7:00 a.m.  In the event that Wyoming Public Schools close, the HSB automatically closes for the day, which means we will NOT have classes in the building.
