Do you have a middle or high school child who wants to work in your church nursery, babysit, or be a nanny, but must be CPR and First Aid Certified before he or she may do so?  Is your child interested in pursuing something in the medical or para-medical profession in the future and desires to get a taste of some of the skills needed?  If so, this might be the class you are looking for.  This year-long class will be taught by our Registered Nurse and American Red Cross teaching veteran, Bonnie Spaanstra.

The first part of the year, students passing the tests will become American Red Cross certified for Lay Responder CPR/AED for Adults/Children/Infants and First Aid.  This is basic certification, allowing the students to be competent in lower level emergency care.  We will be going into even more detail than is typically taught in a full day session at your local American Red Cross chapter.  The second part of the year will be spent on investigating other portions of human health, including:  drug and alcohol abuse, nutrition, eating disorders, exercise, fetal development, and general adolescent physical changes.  We will also continue to review CPR and First Aid information to keep those new skills intact.

Parents should know their child's level of social maturity as to whether or not they are ready for this class.  As a possible addendum to this class, there may be an optional "For Girls Only" one hour session, potentially open to other GRACE students ages 9-13.
