Prerequisite:  It is very important that your student is proficient in math knowledge and skill at the Algebra I level to take this class. If they have not successfully completed an Algebra I course, or if you need confirmation of their ability in this area, please follow this link to download and take a proficiency test for Algebra II-which indicates a proficient level of Algebra I. Have your student take the test, then self grade (the answer sheet is available on this download as well) to determine their skill level to achieve in Chemistry.

Chemistry is one of the most fascinating studies of the orderly design of our perfect Creator! The chemistry course is based on regular laboratory investigations of matter, chemical reactions, and the role of energy in those reactions.  Students will learn about the structure and properties of matter and its interactions.  The course will include the study of atomic structure, chemical bonding, reactions, mass relationships in reactions, stoichiometry, gasses, liquids, solids, solutions, acids and bases, kinetics and equilibrium, organic and nuclear chemistry. Laboratory experiments will be used to reinforce topics studied from the text.  In addition, students will gain an understanding of the history of chemistry, explore the uses of chemistry in various careers, and learn and practice laboratory safety. Our Chemistry course is designed to give the student a solid foundation in chemistry, in order to prepare the student for college-level science classes.

*This class is available for Articulation Credit with Davenport University (see details at Articulation Credit page).
