We will study the Civil War from the viewpoint that the main constitutional cause of the conflict was the nature of our Union and that the main emotional cause had to do with slavery.  We will study those events that caused those, both in the North and South, to take a more hardened position toward each other, lessening the possibility of compromise and, thus, a peaceful solution to their problems.  We will also study the key battles and strategies of the war in order to show how and why the North won.  In order to understand better the modern interpretation of the Constitution and the division of the races in our day, we will study the effect of the peace treaty that ended the Civil War as well as the Reconstruction Period that followed.
