Elementary Art

Art I - (Grades K-1) 

Teacher:  Mrs. Karen Plas

Time:  Friday 10:00-10:55

Class & Material Cost:  $235
A material fee of $20 is included in the cost of the class.

(Please put your child’s name on the outside of supplies with a Sharpie marker, and initials on each marker), large zippered storage bags for crayons and markers and a cloth shopping bag make it easy for pick up time and carrying to and from class. 
In this class, we will explore a wide variety of fun themes, while incorporating into our projects six elements of art: line, texture, space, color, value, shape/form. Students will master their cutting skills and learn the essentials for beginning drawing and painting. Each year is different with new themes and lessons so that a child may take the class more than once.

Supplies Needed

  • Large 50 count package of Crayola Super Tip markers

  • Crayola or Prang watercolors (16 colors or more)

  • Crayola crayons (96 count)

  • Cloth bag; large size Ziploc bags for crayons, markers and watercolors.


Art II - (Grades 2-4) )

Teacher:  Mrs. Karen Plas

Time:  Friday 9:00-9:55

Class & Material Cost:  $235
A material fee of $20 is included in the cost of the class.

We will be learning the six elements of art: line, texture, space, color, value, shape/form, and incorporating them into our projects, along with beginning drawing skills. We will learn about art from various countries along with the art of some famous artists. Each year is different with new art lessons so that a child may take the class more than once.

  • Cloth bag; large size Ziploc bags for crayons, markers and watercolors.


Art III - (Grades 3-5) - WAIT LIST

Teacher:  Mrs. Karen Plas

Time:  Friday 12:45-1:40

Class & Material Cost:  $235
A material fee of $20 is included in the cost of the class.

(Please put your child’s name on the outside of supplies with a Sharpie marker, and initials on each marker), Large zippered storage bags for crayons and markers and a cloth shopping bag make it easy for pick up time and carrying to and from class. 

Students will be learning the six elements of art: line, texture, space, color, value, shape/form as well as the six principles of design: pattern, rhythm/movement, proportion/scale, balance, unity and emphasis, and incorporating them into their projects, with a wide variety of art media. They will create one 3-dimensional art piece, experiment with collage techniques, and learn intermediate drawing skills such as beginning perspective, simple blending and shading, helpful tips for people, animals, and landscapes. Many of the lessons will include art history. Each year is different with new art lessons so that a child may take the class more than once.

Supplies Needed

  • Large 50 count package of Crayola Super Tip markers

  • Crayola or Prang watercolors (16 colors or more)

  • Large assortment of Crayola, Prang, or Faber-Castel colored pencils

  • 9 x 12 sketchbook

  • Cloth bag for supplies and one large size Ziploc bag.



Art IV - (Grades 5-7) - WAIT LIST (However, Art Around the World (Gr. 3-6) is available on Tuesdays)

Time:  Friday 11:00-11:55

Class & Material Cost:  $235
